Can cataract be cured without surgery?

What is a Cataract?

A cataract is a haziness of the lens that all of us develop naturally if we live long enough unfortunately with age.

Normal eye Vs Eye with cataract

Can you reverse cataracts without surgery?

Unfortunately, we cannot reverse cataract development. At the moment we don't have any technology or any ability to do that. It's a natural thing that we all experience eventually.

If you have been diagnosed with early cataracts or if you'd like to just never be diagnosed with vision changing cataracts then have a look at the 5 tips shared below to slash your risk of ever developing severe cataracts:

  • Protect your eyes from the ultraviolet radiation of the sun at all times.
  • Wear dark UV blocking sunglasses and a wide brimmed hat anytime you're out in the sun.
  • If eyeballs have been exposed to sunlight it hurts your eye lens. Lens of the eye does not have any blood vessels feeding it whatsoever also the cells in your lens don't have a nucleus and they also don't have mitochondria. So the cells of your lens are completely dependent on the diffusion through the aqueous humor that's the liquid inside your eyeball. This is how it gets all its nutrition and that's how it gets rid of all of its wastes.

  • Eat healthy food that are rich in antioxidant which slows down the process of cataract formation.
  • Dont smoke and reduce alcohol use. Eliminate foods rich in starch like grains, starchy vegetables or fruits, because even if you don't have any added sugar these food contains starch that can trigger your bloodstream.
These tips doesn't only help to prevent or slow down the cataract formation process, but it also helps to manage other health problems.

Eye Movement Dysfunction

The rotational movements of intorsion and extorsion are necessary to keep a viewed object stable and positioned on the appropriate part of the retina as the head is tilted from side to side. To illustrate imagine standing upright and looking at an arrow that is pointing superiorly.  Now tilt your head 45 degrees to the right, does the arrow move with your head? Now point at a 45 degree angle, hopefully not. Because of intorsion and extortion the arrow should still appear to be pointing superiorly. In this case the right eye has been intowarded and the left eye has been equivalently extorted so that the image falls on the same part of the retina as before the head tilt. Obviously our eye has a limited range of intorsion and extorsion. They cannot spin completely around within the orbit. And if we were to stand on our head the arrow would appear to change direction and appear to point inferiorly. Now, lets look at the movements produced by each of the extra oculum muscles. Medial and...
